Current Projects
At Precious Plastic Monash we are constantly coming up with creative ways to recycle plastic for various uses. Find out what the products team at PPM are currently working on and get an insight into the many techniques we use to recycle plastic waste!
Re-Table
This recycled plastic table comes from an idea to have a table version of our popular Re-Stool product. The tabletop was made from approximately 18kg of shredded bottlecaps, both LDPE and HDPE plastic. This was pressed into a 1×1 metre sheet with the help of a large sheet press from our friends Rethink Recycling, and further, planed cut and sanded into a round tabletop back at Monash. The table legs were recovered from a damage MDF table from a hard waste collection. This project is an exciting proof of concept for using large recycled plastic sheets to quickly bring scrap furniture back to life a reduce waste. With PPM’s own 1×1 metre sheet press nearing completion, we hope to be able to do more similar projects in-house soon.
LDPE Line
We have been recycling LDPE shopping bags and turning them into sturdier reusable items! Around 10 bags are layered on top of each other and fused together into thicker, stronger sheets using our sheet press. These sheets are then cut and sewn together to make the various products you can see above including bags, wallets and purses.
Recycled PLA Rope
This rope is made from recycled PLA plastic that is stretched into stringy fibres after being melted. These fibres are then twisted together with a drill to form rope. These ropes can be used as single strands like in bracelets or braided together to form stronger ropes.
